July 6, 2026ATHLETE PROFILE | Dwan Street
Dwan has been part of the HEAL community since 2016 after a friend referred her while she was trying to find her groove again after some time away from consistent training.
A former varsity cross-country runner, her path into triathlon started with an injury. When her physiotherapist suggested swimming as part of rehab, she taught herself to swim. Since she was already riding her bike for cross-training, triathlon seemed like the logical next step.
One of the biggest lessons she’s learned through endurance sport:
“Life throws curveballs but it doesn’t mean all is lost. It’s okay to take breaks and come back a different person.”
When asked about her proudest athletic achievement, she immediately thought of 2012.
Working at the Running Room, she struck up conversations with her university’s cross-country coach, who encouraged her to try out for the travel team. The qualifying race was the Provincial 5K. She’d never formally trained for a competitive 5K before and was told she’d need to run under 21:00.
So she left the Garmin at home and raced by feel.
20:59.
7th female overall. 2nd in her age group.
That performance earned her a spot on the travel team, leading to a season competing with the university squad and racing at the Atlantic University Championships.
Today, Dwan’s goal is simple:
Get back to training consistently.
Because sometimes the biggest goals aren’t about faster finish times. They’re about showing up again.
