I’m back from Budapest! On September 12th I wore Team Canada colours and competed in the Age-Group ITU World Championship Olympic distance triathlon. It was a great experience and honour to be part of this fabulous team. The course was beautiful, fast and flat. We started in a bay off the Danube on the Buda side, the water was a balmy 15 C, but I prefer that to the heat. The bike course was a 3-loop flat course and the run took us up the Danube and over the Chain Bridge to finish on the Pest side of the river. While I had a great time and raced well, I had a flat tire on towards the end of the second loop on the bike course. I have had my share of flats (tires) in training, however I have never had to change one during a race, until now. I think I faired pretty well and tried not to let it get me down. It likely took about 10 minutes for me to change the tire and get moving again. I was pleased to see it was the tire that had been slowing me down and not fatigue. I finished the race smiling, holding my Canadian Flag.
